This biannual ocean science and technology fair was held at the Southampton Oceanography Center (UK), which also houses the University of Marine Studies and Certification Laboratories.

A perfect setting to host the more than 5,000 experts from over 80 countries who attended the exhibitions and conferences, breaking attendance records.

What did we discover there?

The event featured 300 exhibitors, including our partner CEEP CONNECTORS, nearly 150 hours of live exhibits and a conference program with international leaders in the marine industry.

Advanced ocean robotics was one of the main attractions, with demonstrations of the latest and most sophisticated remotely operated vehicle (ROV) technology.

We especially enjoyed these live exhibits at the dock and test tank, which featured the latest innovations in fully autonomous and unmanned aquatic drones, robots, and vessels, which were monitored from a ship’s control center or even from land.

These tools are designed to perform ocean floor mapping, water status analysis, marine rescue, geological and seismic surveys… for which they require a large number of connectors in their communication devices, GPS, video and sonar cameras, power supply, etc.

At Alfa’r we are aware of the importance of quality in the connection systems for the development and correct application of these devices. It goes without saying that these instruments are indispensable for the future and technological progress, and their findings can have a very positive impact on people’s lives.

What do we contribute from Alfa’r?

That is why we are contributing to this cause, with our experience, know-how and expertise, by designing IP68 connectors for the surface and embarking on a new professional challenge: underwater connectors for under-ocean transmission. The exhibition will comprise two halls where visitors will be able to meet equipment from over 300 of the world’s leading manufacturers and industry suppliers, test products, attend lectures and learn from the training and demonstration program.

As for the colloquiums, they will take place on the first day and the talks will deal with climate change or the needs of the so-called blue economy, there will also be a session dedicated to operations with unmanned vehicles and another about the regulations of these autonomous systems, and finally, there will be a discussion about the future of the industry and the challenges and possibilities that lie ahead.

On the other hand, the training and demonstration program will try to teach in a practical way different state-of-the-art autonomous marine systems, biological and chemical sensors, inspection tools (among many other instruments) both in the classrooms and in the port, on board vessels and in the test tank.

All activities are designed to bring the latest innovations, share knowledge, generate knowledge, generate solutions and build valuable business relationships with professionals from around the world in a constantly evolving industry.

In the 90’s, came the consolidation of coaxial with new series, power as 7/16 or microaxial for microwave and other devices. With the emergence of private television, we were one of the developers and promoters of its expansion in Spain.
In the second part of the 1990’s, ALFA’R actively participated in the deployment of GSM repeater stations, supplying the main mobile telephone operators and the cellular antenna manufacturers with the new technology. From the 2000’s onwards, the company modernized along the same global line of evolution.

The means of production, quality policies, security and internationalization have changed over the years, and at ALFA’R we adapt to all these changes. It was also at this time, when we participated in the definitive expansion of private TV in Spain and, at the end of the decade, also in the deployment of the famous “DTT”, supplying connectors and wiring to the main operators.

Subsequently, around 2010, we strengthened the RF-coaxial connectors division, introducing a new product and started the Multicontact connectors division, a pending issue that substantially expanded our connectivity offer.

Nowadays, our company continues to reinforce the connectivity offer of Multicontact connectors in the industrial and control electronics sector. Right now, more than 85% of our work lies in the design and development of this type of connectors in a customized way.
