The UHF or Ultra High Frequency connector is that used to work in the 300 MHz to 2 GHz band of the electromagnetic spectrum, where propagation by tropospheric space wave is achieved. This is attenuated to the decibel if the Fresnel 1 zone is cleared.
What works with UHF?
Let’s see what the current applications are for this UHF connector in detail.
Television
National and local television channels make use of this high frequency. This varies between 470 MHz and 790 MHz in our country. At present, this band is used to broadcast DTT channels.
Radio amateur
What we know here as personal use PMR446 radio transmitters (equivalent to the US FRS service), also works with UHF. In particular we have two bands:
23 cm band, working at 1200 MHz.
Band of 70 cm. It does so between 430 and 440 MHz provided that frequencies are shared with other services and without priority.
Mobile phones
The first ones we used were around 400 MHz until the international GSM standard indicated that they were around 900 MHz.
We are also affected by the DCS18010 standard, which doubles the frequency, with a shorter range but greater spectrum and therefore less risk of denial of connection.
RFID Product Identification
The UHF frequency band 860 to 960 MHz is used to identify products. The transmitting power is less than 200? W and the antennas have a thickness that is counted in microns.
What is the UHF connector like?
These types of connectors are generally threaded, have anti-rotation characteristics and are quite robust.
The use impedance is not defined and usually starts from 50 Omhios to never exceed 300 MHz. This is how you get a good VSWR.
Its main application is for mobile low-frequency communication systems, although, as we have seen, the band has quite a number of applications in which these connectors (each type) will fit perfectly.
Our RF UHF connectors are of the highest quality, so they are never the reason for failure in a communication. Teflon and bakelite dielectrics are available. Their central contacts are usually made in silver colour, but of course we can also assemble them in gold on request.
The UHF connector has variants in several other aspects such as its shape (could be panel, angled, straight…), the assembly of its cable (in cable gland, quick, welding, crimp…) and the type of this, which can be both standard and special.
In Alfa’ r we provide a solution to your demand in industrial connectors, more specifically in UHF coaxial connectors for the high frequency band, regardless of the use you are giving it. Just contact us and we will advise you on the best products in your particular case.
