The B-SME and B-SCT series rectangular multicontact connectors are two of the most widely used models today. Below we indicate what are its features and the different types of products available on the market.
Rectangular multicontact connectors B-SME and B-SCT series: characteristics and types
The B-SME and B-SCT series rectangular multicontact connectors are based on exactly the same principle as the B-SMF series rack connectors. However, there are differences between the two. On the one hand, the B-SME and B-SCT series rectangular multi-contact connectors are mounted in very robust aluminium housings, which guarantee high strength due in part to the clamping closure.
And, on the other hand, 2, 3, 5 and 8-pin modules can be stacked. As far as stacking is concerned, the modules are inserted in the appropriate frame. In this way, they are stacked safely and, above all, robust and resistant, thus guaranteeing a long service life. One of the main advantages they offer is that they can be configured according to the specific needs of each customer.
There are two different connector sizes: 35.75 mm and 82.5 mm connecting surface, which correspond to 13 umb and 30 umb respectively.
Types of contacts
There are different types of contacts, depending on the nature of the contacts located in them.
Electrical: In this case, they can be elements, male, female, or a mixture of both, in the same monoblock. The section of the contacts is defined according to the number of elements included in each of the monoblocks; they can be 2, 3, 5, 8 with a nominal current per contact of 7.5 A to 25 A.
Coaxial: Those contacts that are supplied in blocks of a total of two connectors, which can be male or female, and of 50 Ω or 75 Ω are known as such. The connectors can be assembled and disassembled relatively easily inside the monoblock module using the extraction tool.
Fiber optics: The connectors are supplied in blocks of 2, 3 and 5 devices.
Compressed air and vacuum: And finally, these connectors are presented in blocks of 2. They can be male, female or a mixture of the two, for tubes of 4 in diameter.
Characteristics
The modules of the rectangular multicontact connectors are made of a thermoset material, so that they are able to withstand extreme temperatures without any problem; between -40ºC and +120ºC. The only exception is the 8-pin module, which is manufactured in thermoplastic, so that its range is noticeably smaller; it can withstand temperatures between -55ºC and +90ºC. In both cases, the impact resistance is very high. One of the main features is that the central electrical contacts are made of gold-plated brass.
Regarding the manufacturing system of the B-SME and B-SCT series rectangular multi-contact connectors, it is very wide and includes a large selection of processes and systems; in addition to the two existing sizes, it includes paper passes, as well as straight and angled ones, which can be short or long.
